Chicoutimi est l'arrondissement central de Saguenay (~65 000 habitants).

Pôle administratif, universitaire et hospitalier : UQAC, Cégep de Chicoutimi, Hôpital de Chicoutimi, Vieux-Chicoutimi.

Chicoutimi at a glance. Chicoutimi is the central borough of the city of Saguenay. With about 65,000 residents, it's the administrative, university and hospital hub of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region. You'll find the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, the Cégep de Chicoutimi, the Chicoutimi Hospital, and the historic downtown known as Vieux-Chicoutimi.

2. Le Vieux-Chicoutimi et la rivière

Le Vieux-Chicoutimi, autour de la rue Racine, abrite restaurants, bars, boutiques et la Pulperie de Chicoutimi.

La rivière Saguenay traverse l'arrondissement.

Vieux-Chicoutimi and the river. Vieux-Chicoutimi, around rue Racine, houses restaurants, bars, shops and the famous Pulperie de Chicoutimi — a national historic site. The Saguenay River crosses the borough, and several walking trails line the banks. It's a vibrant neighbourhood, particularly lively during festivals.

Administrative errands. Saguenay's main City Hall is in Chicoutimi, as is the regional SAAQ office and Service Québec offices. Take advantage of your arrival to complete your paperwork: driver's licence, RAMQ, NAS. 311 answers all municipal questions.

4. Réalité francophone

La vie quotidienne se déroule presque entièrement en français. À l'UQAC, plusieurs étudiants étrangers parlent anglais entre eux, mais les cours et services sont en français.

French-language reality. Like everywhere in Saguenay, daily life happens almost entirely in French. At UQAC, many international students speak English among themselves, but administrative services, businesses and most classes are in French.
