1. Une économie d'industrie lourde

L'économie repose historiquement sur trois piliers : aluminium, foresterie, hydroélectricité.

Rio Tinto exploite plusieurs alumineries — dont Arvida et Vaudreuil à Jonquière, et Alma. Parmi les plus grandes au monde.

A heavy-industry economy. Saguenay's economy historically rests on three pillars: aluminum, forestry, and hydroelectricity. Rio Tinto operates several aluminum smelters in the region, including those in Jonquière (Arvida, Vaudreuil) and Alma. These plants are among the largest in the world.

3. Pénurie de main-d'œuvre

La région connaît une pénurie de main-d'œuvre dans plusieurs secteurs : santé, éducation, métiers techniques, restauration, construction.

Labour shortage. Like many Quebec regions, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean has a labour shortage in several sectors: health, education, technical trades, restaurants, construction. For a qualified newcomer, real opportunities exist.
