It's late. The evening has been pleasant, everyone ate and laughed a lot. You gently decide it's time to head home and you say your goodbyes to your host.

Au Québec, le départ se fait rarement d'un coup : on annonce qu'on commence à penser à partir, on jase encore quelques minutes, on remercie une ou deux fois, puis on s'en va. Envoyer un petit message à son hôte une fois rentré pour dire que le retour s'est bien passé est apprécié — c'est une attention discrète mais qui marque.
In Quebec, leaving is rarely done all at once: you announce that you're starting to think about going, you chat for a few more minutes, you thank your host once or twice, and then you go. Sending a quick message to the host once you're home, to say the trip went well, is appreciated — a small but meaningful gesture.
