A missing parcel

An email tells Elena her parcel has been delivered, but there is nothing at her door. She calls the delivery company… and the solution comes from where she least expects it.

The text

Elena had ordered winter boots online. That morning, an email told her that her parcel had been delivered. She looked on the balcony, in the entrance and under the stairs: nothing had been left.

A little worried, she called the delivery company. A recorded voice told her that her call would be taken in the order it was received. After a long wait, an agent picked up: her name was Mélanie, and she asked what she could do for her. Elena explained that she had been told her parcel had been delivered, but that she had not received anything.

Mélanie searched for a few seconds, then said that the parcel had been dropped off that morning in front of a door, and that the driver had taken a photo. The photo arrived by text message: a blue door, a grey mat. But Elena's door was red! The parcel had been delivered to the wrong address.

Mélanie said that this happens, unfortunately, and that a file was going to be opened. The complaint would be processed in the next few days and Elena would be called back. If the parcel was not found, she would be refunded. Elena thanked her, but she was disappointed: winter was coming.

The next evening, someone knocked on her door. It was Mr. Tremblay, the neighbour next door, with a big box. He explained that the parcel had been left at his place the day before, while he was at his daughter's, and that he had thought it was for her. Elena laughed with relief: she had been told the parcel might be lost! The neighbour had just taken a little detour. Elena called the company back to say that everything was settled, then tried on her boots, thinking that neighbours were sometimes more efficient than telephones.
