Je voudrais + nom, Je voudrais + infinitif, J'aimerais + nom, J'aimerais + infinitif
To ask for something without giving an order, say “Je voudrais” or “J’aimerais”.

“Je veux” is correct but sounds blunt. “Je voudrais” and “J’aimerais” are the polite forms, often followed by “s’il vous plaît”.

Common mistakes
Je veux une baguette.Je voudrais une baguette, s'il vous plaît.
“Je veux” is not wrong, but with a shopkeeper or an employee, “je voudrais” is the expected form.
Je voudrais que réserver une table.Je voudrais réserver une table.
After “je voudrais”, the verb follows directly, in the infinitive. No “que” in between.
