The text
Chidi a essayé.

Chidi arrived in Quebec last summer. One January morning, looking out the window, he saw children gliding on the park rink, across from his home. He had never skated in his life, but as he finished his coffee, he said to himself: why not.
A poster at the community centre announced classes for beginners. Chidi signed up, trembling a little, and the following Saturday he arrived at the park with skates borrowed from a colleague. The instructor, Chantal, gathered the group and told them, laughing, that you learn by falling. No need to worry about falling: that was the program.
Chidi fell three times in the first few minutes. As he got up the third time, he noticed an elderly lady moving slowly, but without falling. Her name was Huguette and she had been skating forever. As she passed near him, she advised him to look ahead, not at his feet: you keep your balance by moving forward, not by stopping.
Chidi tried. Staring at the far end of the rink, he took five steps without falling, then ten. At the end of the class, he hurt everywhere, but he was smiling as he took off his skates. Chidi came back every Saturday: he got to know the other beginners while waiting for his turn, and Huguette while drinking a hot chocolate after class. She would tell him about her childhood winters, and he would tell her about the heat of his country.
One Saturday in March, the snow was already melting. Chantal announced that it was the last class of the season, and Chidi did a full lap of the rink, alone, without falling a single time. When he reached the end, he raised his arms like a champion, and Huguette was waiting for him with two hot chocolates. She asked him whether he would teach her to dance next year, and laughing, he answered yes, but only if she kept teaching him how to stop. He had learned to skate, but above all, by falling and getting back up, he had found his first Quebec friends.
