Exchanging a few words with a dog walker at the park

Situation

You're sitting on a bench in a neighbourhood park. A dog walker goes by with a lovely dog. You decide to start a conversation.

Culture note

Neighbourhood parks are real meeting spots in Quebec, especially among dog owners. You always ask permission before petting an unfamiliar dog — that's a universal courtesy. Many parks have a fenced-off dog area (« parc à chiens »), where conversations between owners come almost on their own.
