2026 Federal Immigration and Citizenship Fees: What Went Up

Permanent residence, citizenship, permits: the federal government raised several fees in 2026. Here are the up-to-date amounts for newcomers.

If you plan to file for permanent residence or citizenship this year, your budget has changed. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) adjusted several fees in spring 2026.

This is a federal measure. It applies everywhere in Canada, Quebec included: even if you were selected by Quebec, you pay these federal fees to Ottawa for your permanent-residence application, on top of the separate provincial fees tied to the Quebec Selection Certificate (CSQ).

Permanent residence. As of April 30, 2026, the Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) rose from $575 to $600, and the principal-applicant processing fee for economic streams (Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Program) from $950 to $990, according to reporting on the published IRCC fees. For a single person, the base cost therefore reaches about $1,590.

Citizenship. As of March 31, 2026, the Right of Citizenship fee increased from $119.75 to $123, IRCC confirmed. The adult application processing fee stays at $530 — bringing the total for an adult to $653.

Family sponsorship. The sponsorship fee goes from $85 to $90, and the sponsored principal applicant's fee from $545 to $570. Biometrics remain at $85 per person ($170 for a family of two or more).

Permits. The base fees for a study permit (about $150) and a work permit (about $155) did not change in this adjustment.

Good to know for newcomers. One costly detail: the Right of Permanent Residence Fee is charged at the rate in effect the day you pay it, not the day you filed. Before completing any form, always confirm the exact amount on IRCC's official fee schedule, since amounts vary by category and family size.
